Third Street’s faculty are in-tune to the needs of adult students and lead individual and group instruction for adults, building community through performing and social activities throughout the year. Whether you’re just beginning or seeking new experiences, you’re welcome to join!
LESSONS
From strings to horns to piano to voice, Third Street’s individual and partner lessons for adults allow students to pick up an old instrument, or learn a new one! Take weekly lessons or coordinate convenient times with your teacher using our Flex Pass.
CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
Group
classes and workshops include Music Theory, Piano Fun for Adults, Adult Jazz
Workshops, and the Adult Performance Workshop, which offers musicians an
opportunity to play for others in a warm and welcoming environment.
ENSEMBLES
This 10-week class will focus on storytelling and acting through song in an encouraging and supportive environment. Performers will have the chance to workshop solo performances in front of the group along with learning small musical theatre numbers to be performed in a revue-style format at an off-site cabaret!

Our 10-week Adult Chamber Music program allows for Intermediate and advanced instrumentalists to play together in small group settings. Each group is matched by skill level and led by an experienced Third Street coach. Groups that are already organized are welcome to join!

Musical Matchmaking
This new student-focused program connects musicians with like-minded peers who are interested to play chamber music together without having formal weekly instruction. Participants choose their own repertoire with the help of Third Street faculty. Additional chamber music coaching is available. All musicians are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the Adult Program concert offered at the end of each session.

Vocalists of any experience level are welcome to join the choir, which performs both traditional and contemporary works. Our new Adult Choir performs with other adult and student groups in concerts throughout the year.

Enjoy dancing and movement to a range of styles including jazz, swing, pop, and beyond! Led by Third Street Dance Instructor Yvonne Curry, the class is open to adults ages 18 and up with any level of experience!

10-week workshops that explore the art of jazz studies through the performance of jazz compositions and repertoire. Work with Third Street faculty in learning jazz theory and developing personal improvisation techniques and understanding of the jazz style. There are two sessions, an introductory session for adults beginning their jazz studies, or an intermediate class for adults with previous experience.

Designed for all levels of musicians who enjoy rock, blues, jazz, and pop, you’ll be matched with other like-minded musicians in a relaxed group coaching session. Coached by an experienced instructor, each group works to develop essential ensemble skills, build their repertoire through studying chord progressions, listening, improvisation, and songwriting techniques. Groups perform at the end of each semester. Ensembles are open to voice, guitar, drums, keyboards, horns, and more!

Adult String Ensemble
New Fall 2019 – Based on the success of our New Horizons Band, our String Ensemble is designed for adult students who want to dust off your violin or try your hand at cello! Our String Ensemble, under the baton of Steve Rochen, brings together like-minded adults to play music and perform! Our no-pressure group is non-auditioned and open to all orchestral string instruments. Though this class is open to all skill levels, beginning instruction and topics will be the focus, especially for adults who are just beginning their musical instruction! Enrollment is available throughout the year.

If you’re “50 or better” and want to dust off your trombone or try your hand at flute, Third Street’s New Horizons Bands, New York City’s official chapter of the international organization, bring together like-minded adults to play music and perform! Our no-pressure classes are non-auditioned and open to all concert band instruments and skill levels, including beginners. Between our three concert bands you are sure to find your musical home with us.
