Third Street Partners provides tailored music and dance instruction to over 3,000 students in more than 25 public schools throughout New York City. Working closely with these schools, we strive to meet the unique needs of each community we serve and to achieve national, state and city standards for arts education. The program includes:
Weekly Instruction: Trained Third Street faculty members instruct classes of students ranging from preschool to high school age for an average of 25 weeks during the school year.
Performances: Students have the opportunity to perform for their friends, family, and/or school during assemblies, demonstrating what they have learned in their music and dance classes.
Opportunities for Free Arts Education: Students from Partner public schools can apply for one year of free group classes at Third Street as part of our Partners@3rd program, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential in music and dance.
Professional Development Residencies: Trained Third Street faculty members partner with classroom teachers to support and coach them in implementing music into everyday routines, activities and units of study. These professional development residencies take place in the classroom with teachers and their students to make a meaningful impact and allow the greatest opportunity for success.
“The partnership experience with Third Street has a long-lasting effect. I see it in the way the students look forward to being in class, the way they sound in performance, their posture, how they express themselves, and their whole physical beings. It’s been really extraordinary. Music invites students to open their eyes and invites a new awareness to the world around them. Experiencing the arts gives our students an opportunity to succeed in ways that they can’t always in the classroom.”
